Roy Is Still Waiting: How You Can Help Give the Gift of Life

Just over a month ago, we shared Roy Enslow's story with the hope of connecting him with a living kidney donor.

The response from our community was incredible.

Hundreds of people shared his story. Prayers poured in from across the region. Several individuals reached out wanting to learn more about becoming a potential living donor.

To everyone who took the time to pray, share, encourage, or inquire about donation—thank you. Your support has meant more than words can express.

While we are deeply grateful for the response, Roy is still waiting for the kidney that will give him a second chance at life.

Today, we're asking our community to help us continue sharing his story.

You Don't Have to Be a Direct Match

One of the biggest misconceptions about living kidney donation is that you must be a perfect match for the person you hope to help.

The truth is, that's not always the case.

Through the Kidney Paired Donation Program (also called a Paired Donor Exchange), someone who is not a direct match for Roy may still be able to save his life.

Here's how it works: if you're willing to donate a kidney but aren't compatible with Roy, your kidney can be donated to another recipient. In return, Roy receives a compatible kidney from another living donor through a nationwide exchange program. These paired donations have helped countless individuals receive the lifesaving transplants they desperately need.

In other words, even if you aren't Roy's match, you could still be part of the chain that leads him to one.

Why We're Sharing Roy's Story Again

Roy has been a tremendous supporter of Healing Words and our Smith Mountain Lake community. He has shared his own transplant journey to encourage others, spoken at our Voices That Heal kickoff event, and continues to inspire those around him through his faith, resilience, and hope.

Now, we're asking our community to continue showing up for him.

We believe that every share matters.

Every conversation matters.

Every person who learns about living donation has the potential to change someone's life.

Sometimes, the right story simply needs to reach the right person.

Even if living donation isn't the right path for you, you can still make an incredible impact by sharing Roy's story with your family, friends, coworkers, and community.

We continue to pray for Roy, his family, his medical team, and the person who may one day make his second chance possible.

We know God is still writing Roy's story.

And we remain hopeful that the next chapter is just around the corner.
